Election 2012 Real Estate Marketing Lessons

What can home owners, real estate agents and investors learn about real estate marketing from the 2012 presidential election race?

1. Google for President?

The last week has seen an explosion of stories across the web about how Google has been influencing the vote by returning more positive results for Obama and more negative ones for Romney, leading the Huffington Post and others to question the bias of Google and whether it has just grown too big to be allowed to do this. The bottom line is that billions of people look to Google as the authority on the universe and will blindly believe what they read. So how can you influence Google users to buy your homes?

2. Is Obama the Best Online Marketer?

Those who don’t believe Google is being biased, and especially among those who are serious Romney fans at least have to give it to Obama for being the better online marketer. Love or hate him he is proving you don’t have to have the best product, best looking homes or even best deals providing you are good at SEO and have great writers; something real estate agents and investors need to work on.

3. There is Such a Thing as Bad Press

Hollywood celebrities and agents may disagree when it comes to acting careers but when it comes to selling real estate, investors and agents need to recognize that bad press can be really bad. Just as important is getting coverage. Those who establish market dominance and are seen are likely to win the business just because they are there. So even if you don’t need the leads right now you need to get local coverage and coverage on the web, especially in Google’s search results.
